BUAD - Business Administration
An introductory forum providing the information, knowledge, skills and strategies for success in Business Administration and Accounting at Fredonia and beyond. The course provides an introduction to education and careers in business, and an orientation to the functions and resources provided by the Business Administration department and the university as a whole.

An introduction to the art and science of mobilizing, in pursuit of profit, scarce resources in order to satisfy customers' demand for quality products and services. Topics such as evolution of American business enterprises, social responsibility, production management, human resource management, marketing, accounting, and international business will be introduced. The course is designed primarily for non-majors, although open to Business Administration freshman/sophomore students.

This course engages learners with essential business concepts through lecture and the use of a business Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) simulation (SIM) Scrimmage. This simulation allows students to advance through various simulated business scenarios which become progressively more difficult as the variables of business decisions are added to subsequent simulations. Students work in teams and provide lessons learned to the larger class via after action reports.

An introductory study of statistical methods as applied to business and economic problems. Topics covered include: frequency distributions, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, probability, probability distributions, sampling distributions, estimation, and statistical inference. Note: Credit for at most one of the following courses may be applied towards a student's requirements for graduation: BUAD 200, ECON 200, EDU 200, POLI 200, SOC 200, and STAT 200.

The highly practical course focuses on the critical communication skills involved in effective written and oral communication while emphasizing applications of communication concepts in the world of business. Students will be able to engage in application exercises, build their exploratory skills, and confront problems of diversity.

This course familiarizes students with methods for acquiring, analyzing and presenting business intelligence. It explores approaches for solving business problems by using operational data and applying various tools and analytics to gain insight, acquire knowledge, and attain goals. The students will be acquainted with software-assisted decision-making processes, giving them an advantage in the competitive business arena. The classes will be a blend of theory, practical data explorations, and software use.

A study of the techniques and tools used in analyzing business and economic data with equal emphasis on interpretation of results and estimation techniques. Simple and multiple regression, non-parametric tests, analysis of variance, and surveying are discussed although topics will vary depending upon students' needs. A one semester survey course of legal issues affecting individuals and businesses. Topics covered include dispute resolution, contract law, torts, agency law, employment law, and laws governing the creation, operation, and termination of business organizations. Various public law topics will be examined to gain a fundamental understanding of how the law is intertwined with business.

An introductory course on the application of financial management techniques in the health care industry. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the unique problems facing the industry in the financial relationships among hospitals, patients, physicians and other providers, insurance, capital suppliers and governmental agencies.

An in-depth study of the theories and processes of management focusing on organizational behavior, hierarchical versus network organizational structure, and organizational culture. Organizational Behavior is the study and application of knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups act in organizations. It does this by taking a system approach. That is, it interprets people-organization relationships in terms of the whole person, whole group, whole organization, and whole social system. Its purpose is to build better relationships by achieving human objectives, organizational objectives, and strategic system-wide objectives.

An introduction to the field of marketing and marketing management. Emphasis on the marketing function of pricing, promotion, distribution, and product design both domestically and internationally. Students will learn to employ state-of-the-art information to plan, price, distribute, advertise, and promote products and services in the 21st century global economy as symbolic analysts and knowledge workers. This upper division course focuses on a conversion-based strategic framework to govern digital promotion campaigns. Topics include digital advertising, search engine optimization, web analytics, content marketing, social media & mobile marketing, virtual & augmented realities, online communities in addition to privacy issues, regulation and anti-trust activity in digital marketing environment. Through a combination of lecture, case studies, and course projects, students will develop capabilities and skills in preparing their credentials for careers in digital marketing and related areas.
