The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) degree prepares individuals to be leaders and advocates in the field of mental health counseling and follows a nationally recognized curriculum aligned with national and state standards. The program’s 63 credits include course content in professional orientation and ethical practice, social and cultural diversity, human growth and development, career development, helping relationships, group work, assessment, and research/program evaluation.
This program is delivered in a low-residency format, which allows students to maintain their current professional responsibilities, while also pursuing a Master's Degree. Students attend in-person classes on the SUNY Fredonia campus one weekend per month throughout the year, and complete associated coursework online, with field work in clinical settings near their home.
Requirements for Graduate Admission
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Cumulative GPA: 3.0 (May be offered conditional admission for lower GPA)

- Transcripts; Official transcripts with degree conferral are required after you have completed your degree from your previous institution. Official transcripts need to be sent to Fredonia directly from the institution(s) you attended. Applicants who have attended or are attending SUNY Fredonia for their undergraduate degrees are not required to submit official transcripts.

Your perception of the relevance of the Clinical Mental Health Program in meeting your career goals.
