PSY 429 History and Systems of Psychology

This course provides an in-depth analysis of the major theories in the development of psychology as the scientific study of how we think, feel, and behave. The course places the discipline of psychology in historical context in relation to the philosophical and scientific underpinnings of the field, as well as the intersection and overlap of psychology with other disciplines. Topics include the mind-body problem, nature versus nurture in personality development, and the social, cultural, and political influences in the care and treatment of individuals with mental illness.
