As a minor within the interdisciplinary Ethnic & Gender Studies program, students in the Multi-Ethnic Studies minor are encouraged to focus on the rich and complex histories encompassing race and ethnicity that comprise the American experience, within a broad social justice framework. A minor in Multi-Ethnic Studies helps students better understand the ways that multiple groups have contributed to and been shaped by their experiences in the United States, while simultaneously preparing students to thrive in an increasingly diverse workplace, culture, and global economy.
Multi-Ethnic Studies is for everyone! Students in the Multi-Ethnic Studies will sharpen their ability to listen and communicate across diverse cultural, social and historical experiences and become more aware and respectful of the complexities within their communities. As the world becomes more interconnected, the ability to consider diverse perspectives and communicate across differences becomes increasingly valuable. This coursework challenges students to think critically and to write persuasively and thoughtfully, pushing them to seek innovative solutions to problems which they understand to be multifaceted. Students in the program will be well-prepared for careers in education, human services, non-profits and museums, library science, journalism, law, health, literature, the arts and media, and many other fields.
