Cyber security is critical to the modern world. Hacks, malware infections, and data loss happen every day costing businesses millions of dollars and there is a significant shortage of computing professionals that possess the skills necessary to secure systems against such threats.

The Advanced Certificate in Cyber security program will prepare students that have already completed an undergraduate degree in an appropriate technical discipline for positions as security auditors, security analysts or consultants, penetration testers (a.k.a. white hat hackers), and security researchers. The student’s undergraduate education will be supplemented through graduate courses that focus on learning how to secure systems by understanding how systems are successfully exploited. This approach will culminate in CSIT 508: Penetration Testing and Exploit Development in which students will study how to use the same tools and techniques hackers use in order to uncover vulnerabilities in their own systems.

Admission Requirements:

  • Completion of a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related field at an accredited four-year institution.

  • A demonstrated ability to program in at least one high-level programming language such as C, Java, Python, Ruby, or PHP. Client-side JavaScript is not sufficient. Students may submit transcripts with a B- or higher in programming courses as evidence or a GitHub repository containing a portfolio of their work.

  • Students with at least one year of professional experience in a cyber security related discipline such as software engineering or web development, system or network administration, or will receive preference for admissions

  • Students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will receive preference for admissions.
