ENGL 313 Scribbling Women

This course focuses on the feminist project of literary recovery, bringing attention to 19th-century women writers whose work has been historically overlooked or undervalued. Students will read a variety of literature by authors often referred to as “Scribbling Women,” exploring how their writing engaged with and challenged the cultural norms of their time. The course will also engage students in feminist theoretical approaches and methods of recovering and assessing neglected traditions and perspectives from literary history.
