Through various case studies, students will examine the impact that race, gender, class and ethnicity have had both contemporaneously and retroactively on the careers and legacies of significant figures in both the artistic and business realms of the music industry. Additionally, students will examine the constraints placed on various identity groups within the music industry by greater societal power dynamics and systems.
