EDU 460 Assessment & Intervention II-High Incidence Disabilities
This course is designed to provide candidates with methods and strategies for assessment, diagnosis, and evaluation of students with disabilities in inclusive settings. Emphasis will be placed on assessment procedures that incorporate high leverage practices to meet the unique needs of diverse learners. The curriculum and instruction portion of the course focuses on evidenced based instructional practices that align with the NYS learning standards. Candidates will learn to implement evidence-based practices in curriculum development, instructional planning, and multiple research-validated instructional strategies for teaching students within the full range of abilities. Students will develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that classroom teachers will need to work effectively with students with academic and behavioral challenges in inclusive educational settings. This will include managing behavior of students with disabilities and promoting development of positive social interaction skills. Principles, procedures, and applications of formal and informal assessment techniques for individuals with special needs will be discussed. The organization, implementation, modification, and evaluation of interventions for students with high incidence disabilities in particular will be stressed.
