MUED 160 Vernacular Music Making and Learning

Students will explore learning and facilitating the learning of others in vernacular music contexts via development of vernacular musicianship skills. Students will learn ways to include informal and non-formal instruction in their music teaching and apply functional aural skills through engaging in self- and peer-teaching and collaboration. Vernacular musicianship emphasizes students' musical autonomy, songwriting, and creative music-making and includes popular styles of music such as rock, country, hip-hop, rap, reggae, and dubstep.
