Public health studies the health of populations. It is grounded in the social and structural determinants of health perspective, focusing on the issues of health and wellness as they are patterned by social, political, economic, geographic, and environmental factors. Fredonia’s public health minor introduces students to substantive debates around addiction, urban public health, mental health, tobacco and nicotine use, obesity, and violence. Students are also introduced to the basic methods used by epidemiologists.

Public health is an interdisciplinary minor. Students will take classes in the social and natural sciences. The public health minor prepares students for careers that address community health, mental health, physical health, and environmental health, and preparation to pursue a graduate degree in the area of public health.
